15 Black Fitness Content Creators To Follow Now, & Always

It's no secret that this year has brought to light the issue of systemic racism - something that unfortunately existed before 2020 and that we will continue to fight against in the future. We as a brand have taken an honest look at our shortcomings when it comes to diversity and inclusion, and we are actively taking steps to expand representation on our site, in our marketing, and within our L*Space community!

Your Instagram feed is a prime example of a place where you may not even realize systemic racism is happening. Do you only see white influencers on your Explore page? Is your Following list well, a little whitewashed? The fitness space on social media is vast, with tons of amazing "fitfluencers" creating engaging content that will inspire, educate, and motivate you! We're diversifying our feed and you should, too.

Here are 15 (of many!) Black fitness influencers you need in your Instagram feed:

1. @jas_blocker

A certified personal trainer, Princeton grad, and oh yeah - a Team USA athlete for Track & Field, Jasmine Blocker is pretty much the definition of #goals! Check out her posts and IGTV channel for a helpful breakdown of different at-home fitness circuits you can try.

2. @californiapilates

Lencola Green is a Pilates Master Instructor and Carbon38 ambassador. You can find her frequently teaching on their page, incorporating different methods into her fitness classes like yoga and barre. We also love her IGTV videos where she covers foundational Pilates techniques.

3. @gymhooky

Ariel Belgrave, AKA @gymhooky, is all about getting fit without having to set foot inside a gym (pretty perfect for 2020). In addition to being a Tone It Up instructor, she also hosts her own online workouts from her site - seriously, how fun does a Trap Werkout class sound? Sign us up!

Who is down for a positivity pledge this morning? Okay, cool. Repeat after me… “Today is going to be a phenomenal day. I will not allow negative people, thoughts, or feelings drain me of my energy. Instead I will focus on all of the GOOD that is in my life. I will think it, feel it, and speak it. By doing so I will send out vibes of positive energy into the world and I will be grateful for all the wonderful things it will attract into my life.” Repeat TWO more times. Yasss! Now SLAY and OWN the day that belongs to you, boo! Comment with “I WILL!” after you’ve completed the pledge! 💕 . 📷 @teeepeee . #gymhooky #affirmations #selflove #positiveaffirmations #positivity #positivevibes #positivethinking #dailymotivation #dailyinspiration

4. @yellabella

Danielle Acoff is a certified yoga instructor, but she actually began her career as a dancer (fun fact: she was one of the iconic Fanta girls!). It's no wonder her yoga inspo is all about grace and fluidity. She also posts amazing tutorials - we recommend referencing one of her at-home mat workouts for your next sweat sesh.

5. @lauren.arps

Lauren recently took over our Instagram Live for a barre class and it was serious fun (and a serious workout)! She's the founder of The Graceful Strength Method, which is a fusion of ballet barre, high intensity cardio, and yoga. Check out her page for more fitness inspo, and try out the ballet barre class she hosted for us here

✨Happy Monday!✨ I want to take a moment and thank my dear friend Jamie and owner of @me_u_skincare_jamie ✨Jamie is the most friendly, warm person you will ever meet and I had the opportunity to receive the most incredible facial and body massage from her. My skin tends to be on the dryer side (on top of the fact that I teach in a heated studio) and during the fall/winter season I really have to add extra moisture. Jaime is such a wizard in skincare and steamed, massage, extracted, oiled and serumed my skin to first day of birth status! All of this is happening While my legs are in individual massaging compression leggings that felt like you are being swallowed by a snake (trust me, it feels unbelievable). Honestly, I could go on forever, just do yourself a favor and book appointment with Jaime at @me_u_skincare_jamie You will walk out on clouds with the skin of a baby

6. @aminabfit

Amina Barnes is a certified personal trainer, spin instructor, and busy mama. She uses her platform as a health diary, sharing how she juggles her wellness journey with family life. The only thing better than an inspirational fitfluencer? One who's actually relatable!

7. @dejariley

If you're more of YouTube fitness gal, you'll be just as obsessed with Deja Riley's workouts as we are. She covers everything from dance routines to HIIT and boxing classes - and she's also on Instagram, posting IGTV classes and sharing snippets into her life. You'll love her upbeat personality and infectious spirit!

Smoothies have been getting A LOT of love lately — especially since Chicago is out here acting all kinds of #hotgirlsummer. ⁣ ⁣ My eating habit have been trash lately. As a result of letting the day and my to-do list run me, my fasting window has been pushed much later and find myself eating later...and not always the best options. Foods like smoothies - I like mine THICCC - force me to sit down and enjoy, mostly so I don’t end up with too much air in my belly (a whole different issue I have) but they also allow me to be creative. ⁣ ⁣ I’m a creature of habit so this has been my go-to smoothie for YEARS — yes, it lacks veggies, I prefer to chew mine.⁣ ⁣ • 1 scoop @vega_team sport vanilla protein⁣ • 1 cup frozen organic blueberries ⁣ • 1/2 cup frozen organic strawberries ⁣ • 1 scoop collagen powder ⁣ • 1 full dropper @infinite_c_b_d oil⁣ • 1+ cup coconut water (depending on your desired consistency)⁣ ⁣ 🧉 In the market for new smoothie recipes to try! SHARE YOURS! 📸 @Hayet.rida

Earlier today I was asked if I can dance.😅well the answer depends. 1 thing many don’t know about me is I use to be a night club dancer to pump up the crowd. I’ve had many of jobs to get to where I am now. I have always been a worker. As soon as I was of age to work and make my own money I hopped right into the work force. Coming from a family that did not have money, and were on welfare at certain points, I always wanted to be able to provide for myself and future family.⁣ ⁣ Jobs I’ve worked starting at 16 yrs old. ⁣ 🖤Joeys pizzeria: I was the phone girl taking the orders. ⁣ 🖤Tutored a blind child for a year ⁣ 🖤Acme Supermarket: I worked in the bakery. I burned myself pretty good on the big oven that I wasn’t old enough to operate. Still have the scar. 😬⁣ 🖤Sandy lane day care: one of my favorite jobs. I love working with children. They allow me to let go and be my silly self. ⁣ 🖤Art model: while I was in art school I would model for the figure drawing class. ⁣ 🖤Victoria’s Secret in NYC herald Square ⁣ 🖤TGIFridays: my signature outfit was a black pleated skirt and fun socks as my flare. ⁣ 🖤Bebe: at the shorthills mall. I was a straight up Bebe girl. Wore it head to toe! ⁣ 🖤Liquor promo girl: I don’t drink at all, but I was able to sell it at clubs, bars and liquor stores in nj/ nyc.⁣ 🖤Bloomingdale’s: at the shorthills mall. The peak of my shopoholicism. I was addicted to shopping. I’m recovering now. ⁣ —CURRENT—⁣ 🖤 School teacher: I teach Elementary art K-5 in New Jersey. I love sharing my passion for art making. ⁣ 🖤Yoga teacher/ wellness influencer/ fitness model⁣ 🖤Co-founder of @sistersofyoga : we create a space for woc to connect via wellness and yoga. ⁣ ⁣ Everything we do in life is a step to get us to where we are now. It’s literally all connected. It’s what makes the foundation strong and grounded. You HAVE to put in the work to reap success. Don’t be sad if you are working somewhere you don’t see yourself at forever. But do make sure you like what you are doing. Otherwise it will drain you of happiness. I loved every job I’ve had.⁣ ⁣ 💜What jobs have you worked to get you to where you are now?⁣ ⁣ wearing @aloyoga
